Preethi Pal creates history with second athletics medal at Paris Paralympics
Preeti Pal made history by becoming the first Indian woman track and field athlete to win two medals at the Paralympics, earning bronze in the 200m T35 category with a personal best of 30.01 seconds. She had already won bronze in the women's T35 100m event with a personal best of 14.21 seconds.
Sommer Dalla-Bona, a standout player at the PWR DUPR India Masters in Delhi, is enjoying her experience at this prestigious event. The professional tennis player turned pickleball star expressed her excitement about the facilities available for players, stating she feels "very lucky to be playing here." Notably, Sommer has already qualified for the semi-finals.
In an interview with Pickleball Now, Sommer shared her enthusiasm: "It's been amazing. Especially playing on the center court, I appreciate the production and how well the players are treated. The facilities have been great; the courts are professional and really nice to play on. The referees have been incredibly helpful. We are all very fortunate to be competing here."
When asked if she has tried any Indian cuisine during her stay in the capital, Sommer revealed, "I have actually. I've had a lot of meals—I can't name them all, but I had butter chicken. I'm a huge fan of it."
Regarded as one of the top players in pickleball, Sommer has made a remarkable transition from tennis to this rapidly growing sport and is a strong contender for the finals.
Young Talent at the Tournament
Among the participants is 14-year-old Rex Thais, the youngest player at the PWR DUPR India Masters. Rex shared that he has shifted his focus from video games to pickleball since finishing his schoolwork.
"With 750 players from all across the country, you don’t see that in most tournaments. Meeting people from different places is great," Rex told Pickleball Now. He emphasized his commitment, stating, "I stopped playing video games completely. The only challenge is that I love using social media. I just do my schoolwork and then start playing pickleball—that's basically it."
